Educational Experience
BA 1978 in Engineering Science from Christ's
College, Cambridge University UK. http://www.christs.cam.ac.uk
MSc 1982 Cranfield Institute of Technology
UK, School of Electronic Systems Design. Research project was
to design and build a 5dof robot arm with vision and write software for
its real-time control .
PhD 1991 University of Wales Institute of Science
and Technology UK. Research project was linked with Renishaw
Research, a precision metrology UK company, (see below) and was to design
and build a retrofittable, touch sensitive, precision boring head for CNC
machine tools and write software for its real-time control.
Working Experience
Royal Air Force apprenticeship and technician
in aircraft electronics, covering areas such as navigational instruments,
radar and flight control systems and weapon delivery computer systems.
Ford Motor Co., UK, as a mechanical designer. New technique developed
for the extraction of aerodynamic drag (Cd) and tyre drag coefficients
from simple coast down tests.
Lucas Microelectronic Control Systems, UK, as an automotive diesel
engine fuel injection pump inductive displacement sensor designer and researcher.
Terrific R&D lab at Cirencester in picturesque Gloucestershire.
AMF, UK, as a mechatronic machine designer and researcher.
Renishaw Research and Transducers, UK, as a mechatronic machine tool
boring head and laser beam expander/detector designer and researcher.
http://www.renishaw.co.uk Renishaw is a great company for innovative precision
mechanical engineering (as well as other fields) and gives wonderful experience
and challenges in R&D.
Lecturer at University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology
(UWIST) (now University of Wales, College of Cardiff), Cardiff, UK.
http://www.engin.cf.ac.uk Research
into mechatronic machine tool boring head. Lecture subjects:- mechanics,
fluid mechanics.
Danfoss Flowmetering, Stonehouse Gloucestershire, UK, http://www.flow.danfoss.com
as an electromagnetic flowmeter designer and researcher. Mind-blowingly
interesting R&D work here.
Since 1993 as a lecturer and researcher in Hong Kong and 1998 the
same in Singapore at NTU. Lecture and tutorial subjects:- industrial
electronics, microprocessor systems, control theory. Research into autonomous
robots |
