The
Robots
Twin
Beetle Robot
Following the problems of the centipede robot ,a pair
of beetle robots was connected together with a low force,
6 dof, relative displacement and relative angle link system.
A capstan and wire system was used to obtain then relative
displacement between the two beetles. The capstan drove
a potentiometer whose resistance was measured by a Basic
Stamp. The relative angle between the beetles was also
measured by a potentiometer. Very interesting problems
were posed by this robot. The idea is to program the following
robot to follow the leading robot such that the following
robot centreline tracks the leading robot centreline whilst
at the same time the distance between the robots along
the tracked centreline stays the same. Somewhat tricky
to accomplish.
