Final Year Projects
As part of the fulfillment for the BEng degree, students are required to complete one major project in the final year of their course. Here is a sample of the final year projects.
| Implemention
of Infrared Distance Sensors for the Navigation
of Robots |
Student : Student Pua Yeow Wei
Year : 2000 - 2001
Description:
Infra red sensors are
integrated into an existing beetle robot
to provide navigation. Instead of using
'contacting' whiskers of the original
beetle robot, 2 rotating whiskers with
infra red sensors are used. An algorithm
is designed to navigate the robot with
the information provided by the sensors.

| A Mechatronic Potato Shaping Machine |
Student: Ang Tock Heng
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
Design of a potato
shaping machine using servo pneumatics
to replace an existing machine that operates
with electric servo motors.
| Attitude Control of a Hexapod Robot |
Student: Tan Chen Hong
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
To improve existing beetle robot to move in unstructured terrain. A 2-axis tilt sensor is attached on the beetle robot to detect changes in tilt and roll angles. The robot will react to the angular changes to ensure stability.
| Non-Contact
Vehicle Tracking |
Student: Vincent Tan
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
To improve existing
beetle robot to move in unstructured terrain.
A 2-axis tilt sensor is attached on the
beetle robot to detect changes in tilt
and roll angles. The robot will react
to the angular changes to ensure stability.

| Computer
Vision System |
Student: George Lee
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
All our robots are
in desperate need of a compact computer
vision system. We are developing such
a system complete with a 3dof eyeball.
| Underwater
"Helicopter" |
Student: Kok Leong
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
Programs have been
written to oscillate the wings to produce
individual variable amplitude, frequency
and angle of attack under remote radio
control.
| A
Study on Reciprocating Wings |
Student: Ronald Yong Tze Wei
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
This project attempts
to simulate the wing motion of birds,
insects and even bats. Its eventual objective
would be to enable aerodynamic studies
and force analysis relating to reciprocating
winged flight.

| Control
of a Mechatronic Robotic Grasshopper |

Student: Yap Lian Jyh
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
To refine a polynomial
algorithm for the control of a hexapod
robot with 3dof legs
| Control
of a Mechatronic Robotic Spider |

Student: Sagar
Year: 2000 - 2001
Description:
